...Excessive Rainfall Possible This Morning... .A vigorous upper level trough of low pressure will settle over the Ohio Valley this morning. The associated cold front will move southeast, slowly crossing the Appalachians, resulting persistent rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms over parts of North Carolina and into the bordering counties of Virginia. ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EDT TODAY... The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for * Portions of north central North Carolina and northwest North Carolina, including the following areas, in north central North Carolina, Surry. In northwest North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin. * Until noon EDT today * Moderate rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms will continue this morning. Some of the thunderstorms may produce excessive rainfall. * If rainfall exceeds 2 inches in an hour, flash flooding will be possible. Small streams within mountainous terrain are also susceptible to rapid runoff, and will respond very quickly when high rain rates occur.
