Forecast Discussion

A weak front moved across the Southern Appalachians this morning with a couple showers. The afternoon was dry with the exception of some leftover mist and drizzle along the TN/NC border and west of the Blue Ridge; however, tonight rain will redevelop as a strong low ejects out of the Southwest US. By late Tuesday, this low will be in the Ohio Valley. A strong moist fetch out of the Gulf will produce significant rains (1"-3" total) tonight through early Wednesday morning. Temperatures tomorrow will be steady or falling for a good part of the day. It looks too warm for any freezing rain along the Blue Ridge. Temperatures will rise Tuesday night.

Wednesday will begin with mild temperatures. A cold front will move across the region during the day with falling temperatures in it's wake. We can expect snow showers and flurries Wednesday night and through a good part of the day Thursday. Light accumulations are expected at higher elevations and along the TN/NC line tapering to no accumulation in the far eastern sections of the region.

Friday will be a 'tweener... not as cold as Thursday and dry.

A weak front will move through Saturday. Rain showers are expected especially during the afternoon, but colder weather with snow showers will arrive behind the front Saturday night. Sunday looks partly cloudy and cold.
