Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

The old Platters song has come to mind several times in the last week or so. They left out smoke getting in your throat and lungs! Otherwise, the weather Saturday would have been near-perfect with Saturday warmer than today. Sunday has more clouds with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers. Showers and thundershowers remain with us during the daytime Monday.

We Have Winners!
123 photographers submitted over 700 photos in the contest. Then almost 30,000 votes were cast in voting for the best photo. The overall quality of photos was amazing--we could have produced 5 beautiful calendars from these submissions! Click here to see all the winning photos.
Additional photos will be selected as "Best of the Rest" photos during the next couple weeks as we do the design work on for next year's calendar.
Congratulations and thanks to all the winners!

Forecast Discussion

We would have a near-perfect couple of days were it not for the smoke from Canadian fires. As the center of high pressure moves to the Southern Appalachians (Saturday), a more southerly flow will make Saturday warmer than today.

The front that moved through here Wednesday is loitering along the Gulf Coast but will return north Sunday. It's return brings more clouds Sunday with scattered showers and thundershowers in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thundershowers remain a possibility Sunday night.

The next cold front from the Great Plains arrives Monday bringing occasional daytime showers and thundershowers. Clouds decrease Monday night.

My hunch is that smoke will still be an issue next week; however, I think it best to be closer in time before trying to speculate any specifics on that point.

The center of high pressure will be in the Southeast Tuesday with Monday's front just to our east and south. The front may creep slightly northward Wednesday and Thursday with a disturbance moving along it from west to east. So, Tuesday looks dry and pleasant. I cannot rule out an afternoon or evening shower or thundershower Wednesday. Then coverage of PM showers and thundershowers will tick up Thursday. Temperatures remain at or slightly below seasonal averages.
